Thursday, 3 October was a night of celebration and congratulations at the glitzy South African Dance Music Awards as DJs and musicians who fill dance floors and keep us dancing till the AMs were being honoured for their work.
Dj Shimza, Black Coffee, Distruction Boyz and Simmy were among the winners at the ceremony. Another big winner was Prince Kaybee and Msaki who "together" bagged the House Record of the Year award for Fetch Your Life.
Now, there's a reason why the word together is in inverted commas, this is because Prince Kaybee and his team have landed themselves in hot water for failing to acknowledge Msaki - the vocalist who penned the song.
During the acceptance speech, the DJ's booking manager made no mention of Msaki and when Prince Kaybee shared the video of the speech on social media (which he later deleted) also did not mention the vocalist nor correct the mishap.
This inevitably sent fans into a rage, with many calling the Banomoya hit-maker out and probing Msaki for a response after a fan suggested that she should give him the benefit of the doubt, to which she replied sarcastically by saying: "Sure I’m cool with the benefit of the doubt. No mention of my name on written post or a tag. Maybe he forgot or ran out of characters. So much going on in the world ..."
Prince Kaybee attempted to put out the fire by apologizing and highlighting that the "WE" on his deleted post indicated that Msaki was included and acknowledged for her contribution.
"Hi guys I would like to apologize on behalf of my booking manager for not mentioning @Msaki_ZA yesterday at the awards when collecting the award on OUR behalf, I ddnt know what she was gnna say, I the posted that “WE”(Msaki and I) have won an award. We did not mean any harm."

Unfortunately, his explanation did not help the situation much and Msaki's reply was a clear indication of that: "It’s all good Kabelo. I don’t mind that your booking manager didn’t mention me, that’s ok. You could’ve done that your post abt the award but it didn't seem like a priority. You suggest I locate my contribution in the “we”. Even now, you could do better. Understand?,"she tweeted.
The producer ended the debacle by saying that he always gives credit to artists he works with and also took a jab at Ntsiki Mazwai who had attacked him about the issue. He further said that he will be giving the award to Msaki should she accept it.
