Somizi speaking on Maselspoort on Newzroom receives backlash
Newzroom Afrika is the first black-owned or fronted news channel in South Africa. As they channel is kicking off its “New Year,” one of the burning topics the channel is set to discuss is the Maselspoort racial incident and the subsequent fallout and what it revealed.
Like the fact that it was an international news outlet that was able to get the footage from the resort. This was to refute the claims that the boys were assaulted allegedly due to the fact that they had harassed a three year old, which was the reason the white men were reacting violently.
While the discussion with a panel of experts on the matter would have been welcomed. Newzroom Afrika shared that the discussion on the matter would be with media personality and face of MultiChoice, Somizi Mhlongo.
Safe to say when the promotional poster for the upcoming interview was shared, tweeps were quick to drag Newzroom for not even trying to get an expert on race and race politics and instead chose Somizi.
Moreover, the jokes kept writing themselves as it was suggested that Somizi might have been invited because he was an actor on Sarafina. Therefore, the South African classic film was catching strays due to Newzroom Afrika and their now since deleted promotional post.
Somizi is allegedly overexposed
However, this might be the first time that Somizi is being dragged in 2023. But it does seem like his 2023 might play out like his 2022. This is as by the end of the year, Somizi was allegedly being dragged for being “overexposed” as a ZAlebs.

Chris Excel's outrage comes from an observation where he has pointed out that young and talented people are still waiting for opportunities and their breakthrough, while the likes of Somizi Mhlongo have their finger in every pie.
