Thuso Mbedu's sudden American accent has been a topic of discussion recently. The Woman king star has been doing interviews and magazine covers to promote her new film with Viola Davis. While some South Africans have been celebrating the actress and her accolades, some pointed out how her fake American accent puts them off.

A tweep tried to compliment Thuso and added that they watched the interviews but was put off by the accent. The troll told Thuso to not lose her South African accent.

"Reduce the American accent beautiful. I was watching your interview. Don't lose the South ah accent," advised the tweep.

Thuso clapped back and told him they don't know what they are talking about.

This wouldn't be the first time Thuso was told to lose the accent. Following the success of the underground railroad, Thuso appeared on numerous TV talkshows.

Thuso took to Instagram and laughed at the people mocking her. She told them that it was only a practice run and there is definitely more to come.

"I see a lot of you commenting about my accent, I'm not gonna get into it now but I just wanna say I have not started, that was just the beginning.

"What you hearing now are just some of the habits that I have picked up because of the type of people I hang out with."

Thuso continued, "People that day will cry out blood when I speak such an accent. Qhubekani!" which means you may continue.

In a recent interview with M&G Friday, Thuso spoke about filming The Woman King.

"We shot from October 2021 to March 2022, and being able to spend Christmas with my family was amazing. Because the truth is, as South Africa we’ve got beautiful locations, we’ve got the resources in terms of storytelling. It’s just maybe the opportunities are here [LA].

"We’re getting more opportunities now (industry-wise), but then a lot of politics goes into it. But we are more than capable of producing great stories, right? So, to be able to come with a Hollywood story and shoot it locally was an amazing experience for me," she said
