In a recent interview with M&G Friday, Thuso revealed what it was like filming at home.
"We shot from October 2021 to March 2022, and being able to spend Christmas with my family was amazing. Because the truth is, as South Africa we’ve got beautiful locations, we’ve got the resources in terms of storytelling. It’s just maybe the opportunities are here [LA].
"We’re getting more opportunities now (industry-wise), but then a lot of politics goes into it. But we are more than capable of producing great stories, right? So, to be able to come with a Hollywood story and shoot it locally was an amazing experience for me," she said
Thuso thanked her supporters for making The Underground Railroad a success. "A year ago The Underground Railroad dropped…It is a project that I will always hold dear in my heart. I will always celebrate every single person involved in creating this story."
"Thank you to the South Africans who showered me with love and support and danced along to a dance challenge and made it a Thuso Mbedu Day situation. Oh goodness. (I still blush at the thought of it). Thank you to everyone else who received this gift with kindness and an open heart."
