The year is coming to a close and as per Mzansi tradition, the top song of the year ushers us into the new year. This cross-over song is the most voted for song by the public.

There is nothing like having your radio on full blast as the clock nears 23:59; waiting to hear your favourite song win that title.

When Ukhozi FM released the final Top 10 songs to vote for, some shade was thrown at naysayers and other competing radio stations. The caption accompanying the list read: " The real Top 10 is out start voting. #UkhoziNYE2019. We are OG's in the game. Other should just keep quiet."

Ukhozi FM is the go-to radio station for many families; especially on the 31st of December; having been the station to introduce the cross-over tradition. In addition, it is the biggest radio station in the country, currently sitting at 7.5 million listeners - as the saying goes "numbers don't lie".

But, each year, the station's list or song of the year is debated. This year, many were angered at the fact that Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa were not featured on the list.

It escalated to the point where the isiZulu radio station was accused of tribalism for not acknowledging other artists. However, some have said that those who oppose Ukhozi FM's TOP 10 can always listen to other radio station countdowns!

These are some of the reactions:

Speaking to Isolezwe, the station clarified a few of the misconceptions, clearly stating that there is nothing wrong with the email system used by listeners.

An announcement was made by Ukhozi FM on December 5 on Facebook and on the radio for fans to start sending in suggestions for their favourite song. The station also informed listeners that December 10 would be the last day to send in nominations - thereafter, the masses can start voting for their favourite song via SMS.

We guess if you did not nominate your favourite song, you have no right to complain.
