Zodwa Wabantu has taken to the streets in support of the entertainment industry, which continues to be limited due to the nationwide lockdown. Currently at level 2, all events have been capped at no more than 50 people in one area, making concerts and shows practically impossible to go on as before.

The media personality took to Instagram today, 2 September 2020 to showcase her participation at the public protest in Durban central earlier in the day. Zodwa is seen holding a large placard which stated, “#70% Capacity in all events”. Her appearance aimed to support the entertainment industry as they continue to suffer from the harsh financial implications of the lockdown. Zodwa’s posts directly spoke to President Cyril Ramaphosa, as she pleaded with him to allow for show business to resume work.

Fans questioned Zodwa’s decision to join the protest, with many arguing that the need to limit the capacity of people at an event was to protect the public, not harm the performers. Chifhiwa Makwarela commented with, “You want us to die? No! We don’t want any event right now!!”. In a following post Zodwa captioned the post with, “Work with us Cyril Ramaphosa. Free the people and artists!!”.

Zodwa has been a part of the South African entertainment industry for many years now, and has had her fair share of shows. She often makes appearances at clubs throughout South Africa, and has featured as the special guest at many events and parties. Due to the nationwide lockdown, Zodwa’s appearances have been limited to television and radio shows, subsequently causing for fans to miss her raunchy dance moves at her events.
