The National Prosecuting Authority has not yet ruled on submissions from rapper Mthembeni “Emtee” Ndevu’s legal team seeking to have the charges against him dropped.
The Roll Up hitmaker made a brief appearance at the Midrand magistrate’s court on Tuesday. The matter was postponed until October 2, when the decision on the legal representations is expected.
Emtee’s father welcomed the delay, saying it gave his son the opportunity to concentrate on his career. The rapper has returned to performing, which remains his source of income and allows him to support himself and his family.
Emtee has been free on R2,000 bail since September 2, following a 16-day period at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre. He was detained after allegedly breaching a protection order secured in 2023 by his estranged wife, Nicole Chinsamy.
The order bars him from sharing any material about Chinsamy on social media, whether favourable or negative, either personally or through someone else. It also instructs him to remove posts about her that had already been published.
His bail was granted after new developments emerged, including Chinsamy’s formal statement withdrawing the case. Appearing in court recently, she said she had chosen to end the matter so she could close that chapter and continue with her life.
