Content creator Grace Mondlana has spoken about a terrifying fall that led to an eight-night hospital stay and revealed a neurological problem doctors had not previously identified.
Fall at home leads to hospitalisation
In a diary-like TikTok vlog shared on Monday, Mondlana documented her time in hospital through footage of monitoring equipment, intravenous treatment and the early stages of her physiotherapy. The former teacher, who later became an influencer, also explained how the accident unfolded.
She said a sudden wave of anxiety hit her as she walked down the stairs that morning. Before she could respond, she lost her balance and fell down the staircase.
- The accident damaged and sprained a ligament in one of her ankles.
- When she attempted to get back up, her left foot would not move.
- Dogs barking nearby helped bring her back to full awareness.
- Her domestic helper then contacted emergency services, and an ambulance was called.
Further tests uncover neurological condition
Although Mondlana initially went to hospital for treatment of the ankle injury, her care took a more serious turn when doctors ordered additional examinations.
She underwent an operation to repair the injured ligament. During the same admission, an electroencephalogram, or EEG, detected an underlying neurological condition by measuring the electrical activity in her brain.
Mondlana has not disclosed the name of the condition. She has, however, confirmed that specialists are now overseeing her treatment and care.
Health scare follows viral dog birthday celebration
The medical emergency came a little more than a week after Mondlana attracted widespread attention for Kai’s lavish first birthday celebration.
- The event featured face-painting activities.
- Guests were entertained by a jumping castle.
- Attendees were reportedly asked not to take photographs.
The party prompted a divided response online. Some critics questioned what they viewed as unnecessary spending, while others defended Mondlana’s freedom to use her own money as she chooses.
Recovery continues at home
After leaving hospital, Mondlana said she was concentrating on rebuilding her physical strength while also taking broader steps to protect her health from home.
She has expressed gratitude to her fans, relatives and friends for standing by her. Mondlana said their supportive messages gave her encouragement and helped improve her mood during an especially challenging period.
