Many Rhythm City viewers were really dreading the 5th of February: the last time we would witness the scintillating character that is David Genaro.

David Genaro (played by Jamie Bartlett) has captivated Mzansi with his brute character and devlish acting skills. Sadly, the time for him to bow out of the show after over a decade came and he gave a stellar performance. The news of his resignation after serving more than a decade, came as a shock and many have agreed that the soapie will never be the same again.

The incomparable actor has won himself 3 SAFTAs for his portrayal of David Genaro in the years 2009, 2015 and 2019.

It was reported that the 66-year-old actor had other projects lined up and would bid farewell to one of eTV's most popular soapies.

An exclusive pre-screening event, hosted by the Rhythm City team, gave fans a chance to honour the work and impact that Jamie Bartlett has contributed to the show and meet him personally.

Many of his colleagues had only positive things to say about Jamie, one of them is the director Eric Mogale.

"He was a gentle giant, a teacher and obviously talent..he is abundantly talented. Shooting his exit was one of the greatest story lines I had to deal with in my entire career. It gave me a lot of anxiety and sleepless nights knowing that a great teacher is leaving our floor," he said.

The gritty showdown gave many goosebumps and set social media ablaze. The character died during a gut-wrenching showdown between his long time rival Suffocate Ndlovu (Mduduzi Mabaso) who teamed up with Khulekani ( Mncedisi Shabangu) to end Genaro's long reign and test his immortality.

Twitter had a lot of positive things to say about Jamie Bartlett;
