Widely respected leader King Goodwill Zwelithini will be laid to rest this week. The King has been accorded a Special Official Funeral with military honours - the burial will be a private family service. The memorial service is set to take place this Thursday at the KwaKhethomthandayo Royal Palace in Nongoma from 10h00 am. It’ll be broadcasted live on SABC and other broadcasting channels.

The King passed away after being hospitalised for several weeks at a KwaZulu-Natal hospital due to his blood glucose levels. The royal house made the announcement last week through a statement to the media which read: "On behalf of the Royal Family, we thank the nation for your continued prayers and support in this most difficult time."
Former leader of the IFP and the king’s traditional prime minister, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi also confirmed the news in a statement.
"It is with the utmost grief that I inform the nation of the passing of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini ka Bhekuzulu, King of the Zulu Nation. Tragically, while still in the hospital, His Majesty’s health took a turn for the worse and he subsequently passed away in the early hours of this morning. On behalf of the Royal Family, we thank the nation for your continues prayers and support in this most difficult time. May His Majesty our King rest in peace.”
The King served the Zulu Kingdom for almost 50 years.
It has also been reported by Daily Sun that legendary South African actor Menzi Ngubane will be laid to rest this Saturday. He will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ladysmith in KZN.

Speaking to the publication, the family’s spokesperson revealed that they are still planning the memorial service and more details will be shared soon. They also thanked the entire nation for their endless support and prayers. “As a family, we wish to thank everyone for their continued support and the prayers for our beloved son, whose battle with kidney failure and sugar diabetes had become an open secret over the years.”
