Langa Mavuso is celebrating a major career milestone after winning his first South African Music Award (SAMA) during the opening night of the 32nd “homecoming” edition at Sun City.
His album Therapy: The Other Side claimed the Best Produced Album prize. Mavuso co-produced the project with Darren Blackhansee, Simphiwe Mashinini, Ndumiso Manana, Ndabo Zulu, Christer Hobedi, Civil Motha, Unako Chabeli, Jabulani Nkabinde, Lindelani Lee, Seragai Thantsha, Mnqobi Bayanda Nxumalo, Jonathan Takui Mensah and Onkabetse John Hlongwane.
The singer said receiving the honour had been an emotional moment after a decade in the music business. He described his first SAMA victory as deeply joyful, adding that the years of work and commitment suddenly felt worthwhile and that he was thrilled to finally win.
Mavuso also said the recognition affirmed the dedication of every person involved in creating the record. He explained that the album was built around collaboration, with each producer responding to his creative vision and personal story before helping shape music that felt honest and vulnerable. The singer praised the full team, saying the award belonged to all of them because they share a genuine love for their craft and value the acknowledgement.
As one of the artists at the centre of South Africa’s renewed R&B and soul movement, Mavuso views the achievement as something larger than a personal trophy. For him, the win also carries significance for the wider R&B community.
He said the genre had returned to the leading edge of South African music and expressed pride in the artists working to expand its reach and strengthen its place in the industry.
Following the award, Mavuso revealed that he is preparing a deluxe edition of the album. Its lead track, I Chose You, is expected to arrive soon, with the singer describing the current period as a joyful and prosperous chapter.
The new music will be followed by a tour, and Mavuso said he plans to announce the artists who will join him on the road in the near future.
