Lethabo “LeJoy” Mathatho has entered a new chapter, celebrating her traditional wedding ceremony with her partner in Mpumalanga.
A Meaningful Traditional Wedding
- The media personality and Real Housewives of Johannesburg star marked her magadi ceremony with close relatives and friends in attendance.
- One of the day’s most emotional moments came when the blanket was lifted. LeJoy said the reaction from those present, especially her in-laws, moved her deeply and made her understand that the occasion represented the joining of two families, their histories and their separate journeys.
- Further celebrations are planned as the couple continues marking their union. LeJoy explained that the first ceremony also served as her introduction to the groom’s family.
For the occasion, she wore three burgundy velvet gowns created especially for her by Manyaku UD Fashion House. The outfits were designed to communicate more than glamour, carrying layers of cultural and personal meaning.
LeJoy said burgundy evokes royalty, authority and prestige, while also reflecting the royal heritage found on both sides of the couple’s families. Her aim was to create a regal look that still retained its Sepedi identity.
She explained that the meaning behind the clothing was connected to her upbringing and the principles she holds dear. In her view, she should not have spoken publicly about a romantic partner until he had formally approached her family to request her hand in marriage.
Each gown, she added, represented her identity, culture, heritage and the woman she is becoming in this next stage of life. The traditional details were therefore not simply decorative or a matter of observing ceremony; they allowed both families to honour their roots and publicly celebrate the union.
Keeping Love Private
Although LeJoy has made a career from being candid on television and radio, she has historically kept her relationships away from public attention.
She said that choice came from the values with which she was raised. Before her partner approached her family, she felt it was not her place to discuss him openly.
LeJoy also valued giving the relationship room to develop without outside noise. Protecting the process, the people involved and the love itself mattered more to her than public visibility, because she believes not every precious part of life needs an audience.
Why She Chose Her Partner
Speaking warmly about her husband, LeJoy said his steady, sincere kindness convinced her that they could create a life together.
She described him as someone whose compassion is natural rather than something he displays to gain approval. His character can be seen in how he treats people, regardless of their status or what they might offer him.
According to LeJoy, he listens carefully, makes room for others and responds with patience and thoughtfulness. She said his gentle nature helps people feel recognised, respected and secure, adding that the consistency and depth of his kindness have meant a great deal to her.
LeJoy said her husband gives her a sense of care, support and understanding.
For her, being loved by a compassionate man brings a quiet kind of strength. She believes their bond rests on more than attraction or dramatic romantic gestures, instead drawing on respect, generosity and the everyday decision to treat one another well.
