Singer Londie London has spoken out after Big Brother Mzansi season six runner-up Thandeka Tshabalala made personal remarks about her on social media.
What happened
- Following the release of a tense episode of Read The Room, Tshabalala posted broad and insulting claims about the way Londie had risen to the height of her career.
- Londie said she was disappointed that the situation turned into what she described as an attack on her character.
- She said the disagreement should have remained part of the discussion filmed for the show, rather than becoming a social-media dispute involving the guest who had taken part in the interview.
“The upsetting part was that we went from recording an episode to being publicly dragged by someone who had been there — the very person we interviewed,” Londie said.
She argued that Tshabalala could have raised her concerns during the programme instead of assigning labels and making serious accusations online. Londie acknowledged that opinions and assumptions are part of the show’s format, but stressed that an opinion should not be presented as proven fact.
“When someone goes online and insists their claims about another person are facts, that becomes an allegation,” she said. Londie added that she appreciated Tshabalala recognising her success, joking that if she ever became a prostitute, she would be the highest-paid one imaginable.
Londie also called the remarks particularly hurtful because they came from another woman during August, which is observed as Women’s Month. She said the conversation could have taken a very different course if Tshabalala had explained what had upset her about Londie’s comments in the earlier episode.
