Chelsi Shikongo had social media abuzz this past weekend after being crowned Miss Namibia 2021. The model and activist who hails from Walvis Bay took over the reign from Miss Namibia 2019 Nadja Breytenbach.

Taking to her social media account, the beauty queen decided to show love to her father for naming her Chelsi as there is so much meaning around the name. This comes after in an interview with The Namibian, she revealed that she was named after the late Chelsi Smith who was crowned Miss Universe in 1995.
"My father knew this day would come giving me the name Chelsi. I truly believe in the power of Manifestation, Hardwork, and Prayer. MEDITATION also really helped me through a lot of days," she wrote.
Scooping the crown made her even more proud and she said she would have loved to meet Chelsi.
"Chelsi Smith is definitely proud of me right now what an honor it would have been to meet her and feel her words of encouragement" In an interview with The Namibian, her mother Mary Shikongo, expressed that she is proud of her.
“I am very proud of her. I was shouting and thanking God when I heard them announcing her name. I advise parents to encourage their children emotionally, physically, and financially when they can, when they show interest in a project." she said.
