Since winning Idols SA in 2013, MUSA has remained a much-loved figure among South African music fans. Now, as he gets ready to release his next album, Uhambo, the singer is looking back on the experiences that brought him to this point.
A breakup song without bitterness
The project begins with Hamba, a breakup track that avoids resentment and accusations. Instead, it presents a sincere appeal for someone to move on while showing consideration for the relationship they once shared.
“Hamba captures a discussion that many couples in long-term relationships might wish to have, but often avoid,” Musa says.
He explains that the song is about releasing a person while still recognising the importance of the shared space and life they built together.
Musa hopes the message will encourage listeners to look more honestly at their own romantic relationships and the way they handle them.
Inside Uhambo
Opening Uhambo, Hamba introduces an album shaped by the personal and musical chapters of Musa’s life. The record brings together Afro-pop and soul, and was completed over approximately six to seven months. During its creation, Musa also worked with fellow songwriters for the first time.
“It takes you on a journey in whichever direction you choose, because every song has a different sound,” he says. “It feels more mature and reflects the various paths I have taken to reach this moment.”
A wider release
The album arrives alongside Musa’s new deal with David Gresham Records (DGR), which will distribute the project as he works to connect with listeners outside South Africa.
Uhambo is due to arrive on 23 September 2026.
