AC Milan coach Ruben Amorim has put an end to the transfer uncertainty surrounding Samuel Chukwueze, confirming the Super Eagles winger will stay at the club for the 2026/27 season.
The 2026 summer window had seen Chukwueze linked strongly with a move after he returned from a season-long loan spell at Premier League club Fulham. Both Fulham and Turkish side Trabzonspor were reported to have made preparations for a permanent deal, but the situation shifted when Fulham decided not to activate their option to buy. Milan, meanwhile, refused to accept a bid of €15 million from Trabzonspor.
Amorim delivered the clearest statement yet at his first press conference at Casa Milan, addressing the rumours head-on rather than leaving the door open for further speculation.
“Chukwu is staying with us. We need players who can take people on one-on-one, literally,” Amorim said. “Saelemaekers can play on the left or right. Cissé and Comotto will be part of preseason with us, but after that I honestly have no idea what will happen.”
The confirmation represents a change from Milan’s earlier stance in the summer, when the club had been willing to consider selling Chukwueze as part of plans to raise funds for other transfer activity.
Chukwueze’s loan at Fulham was productive, with three goals and four assists in 23 Premier League appearances. He also built a notable attacking link-up with fellow Nigerians Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey. Since joining Milan from Villarreal, he has gone on to feature 70 times for the Rossoneri, scoring eight goals and adding six assists.
Milan’s pre-season is scheduled to begin on 13 July, and Chukwueze is expected to report back in time to be included in Amorim’s squad preparations for the new campaign.
