AS Monaco have moved to make Ansu Fati’s stay permanent, confirming the signing of the Spain international from Barcelona on Tuesday after a productive loan spell with the Ligue 1 club.
Fati, 23, has agreed a deal running until 2030 with Monaco, with the transfer fee reported to be around €11 million (about $12.5 million). Barcelona will also keep a “percentage of any future sale,” a clause Monaco says remains in place through the Spanish champions.
Monaco announced the completion of the process by stating: “AS Monaco is pleased to announce the activation of the purchase option for Ansu Fati.”
Fati’s development at Camp Nou was repeatedly disrupted by serious injuries, despite the early excitement around his talent. He arrived on the first-team scene as a teenager, making his debut at 16, and later took over Lionel Messi’s famous number 10 shirt while going on to feature in more than 100 matches for the club.
After progressing through Barcelona’s La Masia pathway, Fati spent time away from the Catalan giants on loan. His first such move came to Brighton in 2023, before he joined Monaco, where his performances improved markedly last season and he began to find consistent form.
During his time in Monaco’s colours, the forward scored 12 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions and finished as the club’s second-highest scorer, helping underline why the deal has now been converted into a long-term contract.
