Court appearance and bail conditions
The rapper appeared at the Midrand magistrate’s court after facing allegations tied to a protection order filed in 2023 by his wife, Nicole Chinsamy. The order reportedly required him to refrain from verbally abusing her and from harassing her through social media.
Support was said to have been present in the courtroom, with his friend Sjava, members of his family, and his manager attending to stand by him.
As part of the bail terms, Emtee was told he may not post or publish anything on social media—whether directly or indirectly—relating to Nicole, and this applies to both positive and negative content. He was also ordered to avoid any form of communication linked to her.
In addition, the conditions require the removal of any material already posted about Nicole, with immediate effect. The court warned that any breach of these terms could result in his apprehension.
Handed himself in and alleged 2023 protection-order breach
A report said Emtee handed himself over at the Midrand police station on Wednesday morning, after which he was charged with violating the protection order reportedly obtained by Chinsamy in 2023.
Other accounts claimed that on June 4, the musician unexpectedly entered Nicole’s Midrand home and grabbed a knife in the kitchen while she was bathing their daughter. It was also alleged that their other two children were at school at the time.
One source further claimed that he said he wanted to harm Nicole’s brother and “f*ck up her family tree,” adding to the allegations surrounding the case.
New look after cutting his dreadlocks
The legal developments arrive after the Roll Up hitmaker cut off his signature dreadlock style on June 6. Following the change, he released a statement on Wednesday in which he expressed “heartfelt gratitude” to his parents, brother and sister, as well as to supporters who stood by him.
In the message, he said: “Your love, prayers, encouragement, and unwavering loyalty mean more than words can express.” He added that he made a personal decision to embrace change by getting a fresh haircut, describing it as a representation of growth, renewal, and a positive outlook for the road ahead. The statement also framed the moment as a fresh start, renewed focus, and a commitment to moving forward with purpose and determination.
When reached, Hlubi Radebe—whose details appear on the statement—responded: “I don’t know anything about that.”
Nicole did not provide a comment when contacted.
Public allegations and relationship timeline
On social media, Emtee and Nicole have both shared a series of claims about abuse in their relationship. Their posts reportedly included images showing bruises and damaged doors inside their apartment.
In April 2023, Emtee filed for divorce from Nicole and moved out of their shared flat to stay with a friend in Fourways. The couple later reconciled, and they reportedly welcomed a third child together.
In February, Emtee reportedly moved out again—this time leaving the shared apartment to live in his own place.
While some reports have suggested the divorce has already been finalised, it was confirmed that the process is still ongoing.
