Enugu Rangers delivered a title-winning performance on the road in Lagos, defeating Ikorodu City 2-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena to clinch the Nigeria Premier Football League crown in a finish packed with twists.
The Flying Antelopes arrived with one clear requirement: only victory would guarantee the trophy. They also kept an eye on the parallel contest involving title rivals Rivers United in Port Harcourt, where results would determine who could still overhaul them.
Rangers held their nerve as Chidiebere Nwobodo struck twice to swing the momentum. He found the net in the 30th minute and then again in the 52nd, before Moses Ali pulled one back for Ikorodu City in the 58th minute to set up a tense finale.

Rivers chase ends in second
Back in Port Harcourt, Rivers United pushed hard for the crown with a convincing 3-0 victory over Katsina United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Chijioke Mbaoma opened his account with a goal in the 3rd minute and then struck again in the 67th, while Aniekeme Okon made it three in the 63rd minute.
Even with the emphatic win, Rivers United’s points total ended at 67, meaning they were left to settle for second place. The Pride of Rivers were close enough to threaten the title, but the final day results ultimately denied them the top spot.
The championship fight was not the only storyline as the last matchday also shaped the race for continental qualification and survival, with several late developments across the league.
Survival battles and continental spots
In Minna, Niger Tornadoes secured their place in the NPFL with a 1-0 success over Shooting Stars. Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai converted from the penalty spot in the 41st minute to give the Ikon Allah Boys a decisive three points.
Although Shooting Stars lost, the Oluyole Warriors celebrated a major achievement for their own campaign, qualifying for continental football for the first time in more than two decades. They finished third on 60 points and earned a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
That outcome also affected the standings in Lagos, with Ikorodu City sliding to fourth on 58 points. The club had held the Confederation Cup position for much of the season.
Bendel Insurance moved into fifth place on 56 points after a dramatic 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Remo Stars in Benin City. Remo Stars took the lead just before half-time, and Chijioke Akuneto restored parity with a late equaliser deep into stoppage time.
Despite the late fightback, the result was not enough to keep Remo Stars safe, and they still ended up relegated.
Nasarawa United dropped to sixth after a heavy 3-0 loss to Barau FC in Kano. Joseph Atule scored for the Maliya Boys in the 43rd minute, and Sunday Anthony and Adamu Hussein added further goals after the break.
Barau FC capped an impressive debut NPFL campaign by finishing eighth on 52 points. Their strong second-half momentum was bolstered by the arrival of former Super Eagles player Dominic Iorfa, who took up the role of General Manager.
