Emerging Nigerian squash talents Shuaib Giwa and Yusuf Quadri will face off again in both the Under-19 and senior men’s finals at the Prime Atlantic Squash Tournament after dominant semifinal performances booked their places in the showpiece matches.
Semifinal results set up double showdown
- In the Under-19 bracket, Giwa advanced to the final with a straight-sets win, beating Joshua Daniel 3-0.
- Giwa then delivered one of the tournament’s standout surprises by overcoming senior competitor Samson Asade 3-0 to secure his spot in the men’s final.
- Quadri also claimed a place in the Under-19 final, defeating Benjamin Monday 3-0.
- Quadri followed that up by beating his older brother, Ayomide Yusuf, 3-0, earning qualification for the senior men’s final.
The result means both players will chase honours across junior and senior categories, with the finals set to feature a renewed rivalry between two of Nigeria’s most promising prospects.
The head-to-head also brings back memories of the 2025 edition of the Prime Atlantic Squash Tournament, when the pair met in the Under-19 final and Quadri came out on top.
Giwa and Quadri on the upcoming finals
After his wins, Giwa voiced confidence ahead of the two finals, saying he expects a tough but familiar contest with Quadri. He added that they understand each other’s style well and that he is prepared for the challenge, emphasizing that his hard work has brought him to this stage and that he will aim to deliver his best in both matches.
Quadri, meanwhile, suggested the finals will bring their highest level of squash. He expressed optimism about defending his titles in both categories, stating that he has trained properly and that he will follow his game plan while leaving the outcome to God.
