Ngizwe Mchunu has said he will not apologise to Julius Malema, even after a Gauteng High Court decision ruled in Malema’s favour in a defamation matter and ordered Mchunu to issue a formal apology.
Court order vs. Mchunu’s refusal
The ruling required Mchunu to apologise, but the activist appears to have resisted the outcome, reportedly insisting he will not comply.
Rather than walking back his comments, Mchunu doubled down on his stance in a video that has been circulating online, where he rejected the notion of making an apology and continued to criticise Malema.
What Mchunu said in the viral video
In the clip, Mchunu also appeared to allude to Malema’s political background while arguing that people should not expect him to retreat from his position.
“He is playing a game he used to play when he was in the ANC,” Mchunu said, before adding further remarks that included insults aimed at the EFF leader.
Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma weighs in
The video includes an appearance from former radio presenter Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, who speaks with Mchunu and urges him to reconsider his approach.
- Ngobese-Zuma suggested that issuing an apology could help him move past the dispute and redirect his attention.
- She advised him that the apology is not about “apologising for Malema,” but about enabling others to move on and concentrate on broader goals.
- “You’re not apologising for Malema. You are doing this so we can move on from this and focus on our mission, not on Malema,” she said.
Reaction online and what happens next
Even with Ngobese-Zuma’s encouragement, Mchunu stuck to his position. His refusal has sparked debate online, with users split over his defiance and what it could mean for enforcing the court’s order, as well as the wider friction between the two high-profile figures.
