Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has completed his return to South Africa’s Premier Division, rejoining Chippa United ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 30-year-old returns to the Eastern Cape club after roughly five months away from competitive action, a spell that coincided with him losing his spot in the Super Eagles setup.
Chippa United confirmed the deal through a post on X, describing Nwabali as a key part of the squad.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the club said.
The statement added: “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club. His experience, leadership and presence will once again be a valuable addition to the squad as we continue preparations for the season ahead.”
The latest development brings an end to months of uncertainty surrounding the goalkeeper’s next move, following his February departure from Chippa United. At the time, Nwabali indicated that there was “no deal in front” of him.
Nwabali had been working with the club in recent weeks, training before finalising his comeback.
He first came to wider attention through standout performances for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, when Nigeria finished as runners-up. Those displays helped establish him as one of the country’s most reliable goalkeepers.
With the new campaign approaching, his re-signing is expected to add stability at the back for Chippa United while giving the Nigerian shot-stopper an opportunity to rebuild momentum in international football.
