Gospel singer Oncemore Six is preparing for his first solo showcase, Sound Of Calvary, at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena on September 6.
Quick facts
- Event: Sound Of Calvary
- Date: September 6
- Venue: Big Top Arena, Carnival City
- Focus: Oncemore Six’s solo ministry and music
The gospel star has hinted at a few unexpected moments during the show, but says the main goal is to give audiences enough time to connect with both his ministry and his music.
After sharing the Big Top Arena stage with several leading gospel performers, Oncemore Six wants the Carnival City concert to place him at the centre of the experience. He said audiences will be attending specifically for his performance rather than a multi-artist lineup.
He plans to take fans through the story of his solo career and ministry. His hope is that the musical journey will become a blessing to believers and everyone who hears it.
Before establishing himself as a solo act, Oncemore Six worked as a backing vocalist for some of South Africa’s best-known gospel names, among them Solly Mahlangu, Dr Tumi and Takie Ndou.
He later built a wider following through worship favourites including Ngeke Ng’suke Kuwe and Here On Our Knees.
Looking back, he describes that earlier chapter as a crucial stage in his development. While living in Mpumalanga, he was already performing as an artist in his own right and receiving invitations to sing at churches.
His move to Pretoria changed the direction of his career, leading him into full-time backing-vocal work. Rather than seeing that role as a detour, he regards it as essential preparation for becoming the artist he is today.
The experience taught him which creative choices he wanted to make, which ones he wanted to avoid, and how he hoped to treat people in the industry. He also learned the kind of treatment he would not want others to receive, calling the period a valuable form of training.
Oncemore Six is now among the most in-demand gospel performers in Mzansi, leaving him with a packed schedule.
Even with the demands and pressures of entertainment, he wants to remain humble and committed to his calling. He says he intends to protect what God has entrusted to him instead of reshaping it to reach particular goals or conform to an expected image.
He acknowledges that staying true to that path will be difficult and easier to discuss than practise, but says it is a challenge he is prepared to face.
The concert will take place at the Big Top Arena at Carnival City.
