Whilst Ashes to Ashes celebrated the launch of its second season, some of its writers are disgruntled at how they’ve been treated by not only the producers of the show, but the entire television and film industry.
A television producer by the name of Bongekile Ndaba took to her Facebook account recently to express her frustration towards the unfair treatment and non-recognition of writers of these shows.
Bongekile began her rant by mentioning how writers of Ashes to Ashes were not invited to the launch of its second season, especially considering how hard the writers worked at ensuring that the show had a great story to tell.
Bongekile then made it clear that it was not necessarily about the invite that ignited her frustration but how black writers are continuously being overlooked by the industry and how they do not receive the credit they deserve in comparison to their white counterparts.
Bongekile continued to praise the hard work of black writers, how they have to meet impossible deadlines, miss out on holidays, and still receive a measly salary at the end of the day.
ZAlebs reached out to e.tv for comment and they mentioned that the channel was aware of Bongekile's complaint and that a statement would be released by the channel as soon as possible.
It seems like all that shines isn't gold in the TV industry and the likes of Bongekile are ensuring that voices are heard.
Although the TV producer continued to encourage people to watch Ashes to Ashes, she also requested that viewers read between the lines and ask themselves if a white writer is capable of writing such stories.
Let us know your thoughts on Bongekile's opinion about the treatment of TV writers in the country by leaving your comments below...
