G.O.O.D Music executive, serial Beyoncé apologist and self-proclaimed “musical genius” Kanye Omari West has been called a lot of things throughout his professional music career, TIME Magazine recently named him ‘Most Influential Artist’, while Barack Obama famously called him a jackass after the Taylor Swift “incident”, and now we can add “Doctor” to the list as he has recently been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the School of Art Institute of Chicago, his hometown.
Yes you read that right, arguably the most arrogant human being on the planet has just been given a Ph.D. mere months before he releases his latest album entitled “Swish”. You can almost hear the arrogant, cocky verses and punch lines that will flood our airwaves over the comings month.
Granted, Kanye West is a talented soul. He has contributed greatly to some of contemporary hip-hops most iconic albums post the late 90’s golden era. His live performances cannot be rivalled by anyone in this particular genre and he is notorious for breaking boundaries, setting trends and generally upsetting the status quo for what is acceptable in hip-hop and fashion. One could even argue that he made it cool to be a backpack rapper. At a time when rappers like 50 Cent were dominating the charts and rap beefs equalled platinum album sales, careers like Lupe Fiasco’s, Drake, Big Sean would not be on the level they are on had it not have been for Mr Wests' ground-breaking production, tenacity for sampling classic vocals and hyphy Chicago flow.
Just don’t let him hear you say that stuff!!
The problem has never been Kanye’s awesomeness as a musician; the problem is his awareness of his own awesomeness that inflates his already rather large head. Yeezy is like that really hot girl in class who loved fishing for compliments by making statements about how fat she’s getting. But I guess someone at the School of Art Institute didn’t get the memo. C’est la vie.
But after all has been said and done, congratulations are due for Dr. Yeezus’ accomplishment. Considering it was 11 years ago on his debut album “College Dropout” where he came with the bars…
“Now even though I went to college and dropped out of school quick
I always had a Ph.D.: A Pretty Huge D*ck…” – (Breathe In Breathe Out ft. Ludacris)
