Cosatu spearheads Generations boycott

“We are calling upon viewers to switch their TVs off at 8pm (When Generations shows on SABC 1). We need things to change and for these 16 actors to have their demands met. The boycott will ensure that this happens” announced Zwelinzima Vavi, Cosatu Secretary General.

The actors took a similar cue and responded to online reports that questioned why actors ought to be paid more than doctors, teachers or other people whose job is more difficult than acting “Don’t trivialise what we do please. We are workers who love what we do as much as you,” said Thato Molamu almost emotional.

“As an actress I help you relax and forget your problems so yes I am worth what I am asking for,” Nambitha Mpulwana said.

The actor also mentioned the fact that she hasn’t been able to honour her slot on radio station, Power FM in recent times as a result of the demands of her role on Generations. “I work 13 hours there and yet I am still called a freelancer, what freelancing can one do when I spend all my time there?”, she added.

Despite the push for a boycott, the infamous 16 actors from Generations continued to speak fondly of the show. “We love the show and we definitely want to go back,” said Patrick Shai.
