What’s Hot: Euphonik’s advice to a 17-year-old Cassper Nyovest

When he was just 17 years old, Cassper Nyovest knew what he wanted to do with his life. The rapper, who’s one of SA’s favourite entertainers, had a conversation with DJ Euphonik about getting into the hip hop scene. He was even willing to drop out of high school, which he eventually did.

On his album intro, the Doc Shebeleza star has a line where he says Euphonik told him hip hop doesn’t make money. Speaking to Slikour (watch the video here) about the conversation, Euphonik explained: “Myself and Cassper had a conversation. HHP came through to my radio show, I think Cassper was 17 years old and he said he wanted to get into the hip hop scene, but was dropping out of high school. I said to him ‘yo, hip hop isn’t making a lot of money right now, what are you gonna do differently’?… It was never a negative conversation.

He added that he’d never ever try to discourage someone to not follow their dreams because you never know how things might turn out. “As long as people put in the work, anything is possible,” he added.

Euphonik, who’s a university dropout, also said dropping out of high school and dropping out of varsity are two different things. “I can always go back.” He explained that going back to high school, and having to complete grade 10 when you’re 50 years old is a different ball game.
