Eureka! the new kid on the block

At 22 years of age, Eureka is not only one of the youngest comedians to perform at the Soweto Theatre during the Nights of Comedy event, but he has also been given the opportunity to perform with renowned comedian and film director Kagiso Lediga.

ZAlebs decided to pick his brain and find out what Eureka is all about, speaking to him on the phone ZAlebs could hear that the young man was still wet behind the ears but with quirky one-liners and his ability to make fun of even himself and his rather strange name, Eureka is someone we feel is still going to stick around in the comedy circuit for quite a while.

The 'New Kid on the Block' on the Comedy Central stage…

Performing on Comedy Central was absolutely incredible I’d compare it to performing at New York City’s Apollo Theatre actually because it was the first big platform I’ve ever been on, the media coverage and exposure really helped my career.

Having been in this industry since 2010 I’ve realised that it really is a hustle. Comedy is something you do for the love of it and not for the money as a twenty two year old it’s very difficult in the beginning because you’re also trying to find yourself. The pivotal thing in comedy is to know yourself and at 19 you’re not really sure who you are but right now I feel as though I’ve grown within comedy and really getting comfortable with who I am.

Eddie Murphy my comedy hero

If I ever met Eddie Murphy the first thing I would say to him is 'WOW!!" Eddie Murphy is just my comedy hero.  I’m just amazed at everything he’s done from his comedy DVD’s to his movies he just has an incredible talent I’d definitely just say wow and ask him how he managed to do it and just why he doesn’t do stand-up comedy anymore.

Eureka!! The story behind the name

I’ve heard so many jokes about my name that it doesn’t annoy me at all, every time I meet someone new they ask me about my rather peculiar name.  Funny enough, everyone likes telling me the history of my name and they really think that their really original with their jokes and history which I find to be quit special…and yes ZAlebs Eureka is my real name.

Any luck with the ladies?

I’m not really that guy hey, for some reason women look at me as the type of dude they’d not date.  I don’t know maybe I’m just socially awkward like that, or I just don’t have the right jokes but I’m just never lucky with the ladies like ever! I really have to look into that I really do.

I prefer to focus on my career and the things I'm most passionate about. I'd have to say my truest passion in life is Television.

Acting was really my main thing, I really loved acting for me that’s really what I what I wanted to do, comedy I just accidently fell into it I’ve been on Soweto TV a couple of times, presenting shows and that was something I really enjoyed doing

On the 17th of July 2013 Eureka was nominated for a Savanna Audience Choice Awards which will be taking place on the 24th of August 2013
