Former ‘Idols SA’ judge Marah Louw has denied rumours that she’s flat broke.
The Sunday World recently claimed that the renowned singer and actress has moved out of her luxurious house and into her much more modest family home in Soweto because she’s struggling financially.
Marah, however, laughed off this rumour, confirming that she’s indeed moving houses but denyies allegations that her apparently dire financial situation is forcing her to do so.
“I’m not broke, this is my house. I inherited it from my parents and it’s now registered in my name because I’m their only child,” she told the newspaper when approached for comment.
According to Marah, the only thing forcing her to leave her two story house, situated in the upmarket Jozi suburb of Fourways, is the severe arthritis she has been diagnosed with and the hip and knee replacement she underwent.
She did, however, confirm rumours that she gave her boyfriend the boot after he cheated on her.
“Having a man in my life does not excite me anymore. I’m turning 62 and I don’t need a man to make me happy,” she said of the break-up with ex-boyfriend, who was ten years her junior.
Known as a long-standing judge on Idols SA for five seasons, Marah’s time on the reality show came to an end after season 6 in 2010, during which she controversially admitted to mixing painkillers and alcohol after appearing incoherent and swearing.
She also raised eyebrows when she at the end of the same season said Lloyd Cele should have won the competition, as opposed to Elvis Blue, and claimed that Idols SA is riddled with racism and that there will never be a black SA Idol.
Marah was, however, forced to eat her own words when Khaya Mthethwa was crowned the winner of Idols SA in 2012.
