The members of Muzart dish on their new track Jukebox, collaborations and being compared to The Muffinz.
You’ve shared the stage with the likes of AKA and even the legendary Hotstix Mabuse. Which other local acts would Muzart like to perform with?
That’s a very difficult question but we’d definitely love to perform with HHP because when it comes to sounds and style of music, we sort of have the same approach. He really understands what we do and we think it really fits in well in terms of us and him gelling well on stage.
Do you guys ever get compared to bands like the Muffinz?
We believe every band has its own market. For example, we love MiCasa and we’d compare them to Liquid Deep but at the end of the day both bands have their own style and ways of making music. What we also understand as a band is that not everyone is going to be into us. To this day we haven’t really decided as to what genre we fall under. We can easily appeal to either a house, jazz or R&B market. We really appreciate that we’re compared to bands like The Muffinz.
Are you planning on touring the country anytime soon?
We’d love to tour the country but at the moment there are no plans. But, if there’s any other city or province that really wants us to come through, they’re most welcome to book us for their gigs.
You recently signed to SoulCandi for your debut album. Did you work with any producers from SoulCandi?
We didn’t work with any of the SoulCandi producers; everything was done in-house we as the group produced the tracks.
Why did you decide to move from Reverbnation to SoulCandi?
With Reverbnation we were actually still independent but then our single Jukebox started receiving airplay on YFM and we were also starting to receive a lot of buzz on Facebook. SoulCandi had actually been looking for us for about a year - they just couldn’t find us because we’re from all corners of Gauteng! After a year of searching, SoulCandi managed to get a hold of us. At that time we hadn’t thought about signing to any record label but SoulCandi gave us an offer we couldn’t refuse.
You’ve recently shot a music video for Jukebox. How was that experience for you guys?
Wow, well first of all it was tiring but overall it was just an amazing experience and we had so much fun. The cool thing about the video is that we also worked with a great director -Justin from Gorilla Films. He just let us do our own thing which helped us to relax. Jukebox is all about having fun and that’s exactly what we’re doing.
