Our chief music correspondent, Chad Saaiman, will be bringing us his Hot Song Of The Week every week along with a critical analysis of the song. This week he's chosen the song "Feels Good 2 Me" by South African fan favorite, Danny K. Let's check out what he had to say!
Every few months, on my Facebook fan page, I put out the question, “What is your favourite song right now?” This is a great way for me to monitor which hits are truly reaching the masses. The trend in responses has always leaned towards international songs, with local songs taking second place. This was until last week. There is a song that is loved so much right now, that even Thicke’s Blurred Lines and Daft Punk’s Get Lucky took 2nd and 3rd place…it’s the mammoth Danny K hit, "Brown Eyes."
After reaching #1 of the 5FM charts, Danny finds himself in a great position, and my Hot Song of the Week is the potential follow-up to "Brown Eyes" called “Feels Good 2 Me.” He dropped the teaser to the track not too long ago, and it’s blazing.
This track is overflowing with funk and soulful vocals and has the musical makeup of a huge Prince-like hit with a current edge and sexiness to the groove that is bound to lead to many hot moments on South Africa’s dancefloors.
Will "Feels Good 2 Me" be Danny K's new Hit?
"Feels Good 2 Me" is co-produced (with Danny K) by one of my favourite music-makers Pete “Boxsta” Martin, with whom Danny has worked with for over a decade, and who has also produced for the likes of Sugababes, Dannii Minogue, Alexandra Burke and Chiano Sky. Danny chooses his musical company really well. The song was created in London and brought back to SA to be recorded, then mixed and mastered in the UK.
I caught up with Danny earlier in the week and he said, “'Feels So Good 2 Me' taps into my love for Prince and Michael Jackson. We used classic 80’s Prince drum sounds on the record and my vocal approach to the song was really in line with something he would do,” he continued describing the vocal style, “Octaves…high falsetto and deep bass, just like what I did on Brown Eyes.”
“It’s a sound that I’ve always wanted to do but never thought that the world of music would allow me to do, because it was too progressive. But with the likes of Daft Punk and some of Pharrell’s music, I think people are now ready to receive it, and after the success of Brown Eyes I thought that it would be time to take a chance.”
Will it be the next Danny K single?
