The Grammy awards are still dominating international entertainment news this fine Tuesday morning. Although the awards took place yesterday, the furore is actually far from dying down (Are people really that angry about who won the golden trophy?) However, ignoring the Twitter rants and the crazy comments, one person that took us by surprise when expressing her grievances was song-bird, India Arie (Yes! She’s still making music!)
Two hours ago, India Arie took to social networks to mention that she could no longer hold back her discontent towards the Grammys. Our reaction to her public announcement was a simple eye-roll- that was until the Brown Skin singer tweeted a link to an open letter, suddenly she had our attention. Although with 28 days of 2014 survived, we were hoping that Open Letters had been left behind in 2013.
Although we’re hardly surprised by the contents of celebrity open letters we must commend India for her educational approach towards the Grammys. However we will admit that we were slightly disappointed that there was no actual juicy slander in her letter.
Here’s what the one time Grammy winner had to say. (The irony of this sentence is not lost upon us!)
Someone who didn’t seem too perturbed about this whole Grammy debacle was local artists and poet Ntsiki Mazwai who expressed her disappointment at the state of concern South African’s had towards a westernised award.
Mazwai was also interviewed on Durban’s No 1 Hit radio station East Coast Radio to further elaborate on what she posted on Twitter. Take a listen to what Ntsiki had to say.
Do you think India Arie’s open letter was valid or was it yet another waste of your date and time?
