Keith Sweat returning to SA
The latest trend of bringing has-been international artists to our shores is starting to gain strength month by month it seems. Just last month Tevin Campell performed his 3 city tour concert taking many down memory lane and this week the likes of Kenny Lattimore landed in the country as the headliner for the Women’s Day Soul Revival show. News that has taken ZAlebs by surprise, however, is that of nasal singer Keith Sweat, who performed in the country 2 years ago. Are we South African’s that nostalgic that we invite these 90’s R&B crooners back so casually?
Perhaps not, and we will bite our tongue on this one. It turns out that Keith Sweat is not returning for a concert performance but instead, has been invited by Mpumalanga I.T billionaire who goes by the name of Robert Gumede to celebrate his 50th birthday celebrations. The celebrations are set to take place this weekend in Mpumalanga with the support of local acts such as Zahara, Zakes Bantwini and Mafikizolo taking the stage to help Gumede usher in his 50th birthday with one of the most liverish birthday bashes of 2013.
If there’s one R&B act everyone is really looking forward to seeing this week is non-other than the self-acclaimed Pied Piper himself, R.Kelly, who we hope does not make any last minute cancellations seeing that there hasn’t been any word of his arrival yet. Another 90’s prolific hit maker who was scheduled to perform in May is Kenny Edmundsm better known as Baby-Face. It’s a bit weird because one minute the organizers of the concert were hyping up the concert and then the next minute it was announced that the Baby-Face tour had been cancelled with no explanation whatsoever. To all promoters out there please stop playing with our nostalgic hearts! Some of us actually do want to be taken down memory lane.
We must admit that it would be interesting to watch Keith performing this 90's banger, it's ok we know you want to sing along; go ahead.
