Rebecca’s phone number was recently hacked by a person who is going around pretending to be the award-winning artist.
According to Rebecca, the “scamster” is using WhatsApp to get in touch with people on her contact list.
Rebecca’s PR team says she does not have a WhatsApp account.
“She does not know how to use WhatsApp or even know what it is about. It was actually her first time hearing about WhatsApp. The person sends a message to people on her contact list saying that she has been arrested for speeding and needs R3, 000 bail. If the contact cannot commit to sending the money, the person starts swearing and says they are not true fans and should stop coming to Rebecca’s concerts,” Noluthando Malope told ZAlebs.
It seems the fraudster is using her old number to carry out the scam.
Rebecca has urged her contacts to ignore the imposter and report any incidents to the police.

Another gospel star was also the target of a scam recently.
The person allegedly told the artists the money was a registration fee for the Macufe Festival.
Sfiso has since deleted both his Twitter and Instagram posts about the alleged scam.
Football star Itumeleng Khune’s email was hacked earlier this year.
The hacker sent emails to the goalkeeper’s friends asking them to deposit money into a bank account.
