Can anybody say that they are NOT proudly South African when all of the talented S.A artists that we write about are doing amazing things on the International front? We’re proud to discover that another talented young South African has been flying the flag high. Filipa has caught the attention of U.S radio and television personality Ryan Seacrest with her rendition of One Direction’s hit song Story Of My Life.
Seacrest, who is currently running a YouTube competition to fish out fresh new talent, has tasked YouTubers to cover the One Direction hit to the best of their abilities. There are already 26 different versions on his website and it is now up to the public to vote for which rendition they think is the best. The original song, Story of My Life, has proven to be a massive hit on the charts and has amassed an incredible 147million views on YouTube.
During an interview with Jacaranda F.M’s Martin Bester, the eighteen year old singer expressed great excitement at being selected as the top 26 contestants:
“This has to be one of the most exciting moments for me, being recognised as one of the twenty-six covers by Ryan Seacrest and his team and I really want to get as far as I can in this compeitition.” – said Filipa
The eighteen year old is currently ranked at number two in the competition but is hot on the heels of the leading video. Filipa’s video has received an impressive 54,059 views. She themed it around the story of Pearl Harbour, a reference many have taken a liking to.
