See Unathi live at the Lyric Theatre

Singer and songwriter, Unathi, returns to the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City this week for what she says will be a breath-taking show and we have tickets to give away!

ZAlebs reporter Ella Green joined the singer for a practise session.

Unathi will be performing with her 9-piece band, for a show titled, Music Is Love. Audiences at the Lyric Theatre loved her when she last graced the stage in 2010, so much so that the demand has been such to bring her back to this stage. Joining Unathi on stage are Metro FM Music Awards nominees  Noluthando Meje – best known for her hit, Feeling, and Nandi Mngomo who’ll be performing her hit single Mnandi. Unathi say they’ll be speaking and singing of love in all its forms and guises.

“I’ve come to understand that I love to sing and write about love, not just the cheesy romantic mozzarella kind but love in the universal sense. I wanted to celebrate and talk about the different types of love and the songs I’ve written for my sisters, my parents and obviously the love in my life as well. There are songs that I have written just to get women to love themselves more and to make sure men understand the love that we have for them as well. It’s just going to be a huge celebration about love,” she says

Unathi will be performing her hits such as We Thembisile, A Mother’s Love, Kwa Nolali and Sana Lwam alongside some of her new tracks. She says audiences can expect an evening full of surprises.

“It’s my first time doing an all-female collaboration. I’ve asked Thiwe, who is a beautiful singer, to open the concert for us and then I will be doing a beautiful collaboration with Noluthando Meje and Nandi Mngomo as well,”she says.

The multi award winning singer says while she’s been in the industry for more than 10 years, she never gets tired of doing what she does.

“I am obsessed with music. I love being creative and I feel very blessed to be surrounded by music, that makes me want to do my best. I think that’s what has kept me going all these years,” she says.

Unathi, who is also known for her work as a judge on the hit reality music show – Idols, says what you see, is what you get.

“I don’t like to pretend or try to portray something that I am not. I don’t think there is anything out there that people don’t know about me.”

She says Friday’s show is her way of saying thank you to her Joburg fans.

“Joburg has been my new home and has given me a career and a family for so many years. It’s my way of saying thank you.”

Unathi’ Music is Love takes place on Friday, 3 May, at 20h30 at The Lyric Theatre. The show runs for two hours including a 20-minute interval.
