During an interview with Eye Witness News, Executive Producer of Top Billing, Basetsana Kumalo, revealed that Simba was actually supposed to meet up with Jonathan Boynton-Lee in Cape Town. Jonathan initially had Simba’s J&B Met ticket on the day he the latter passed away.
“Jonathan Boynton-Lee is devastated, they were going to meet at Jonathan’s place in Cape Town and leave from there for the event. When I called Jonathan he said that he didn’t know what to do as he still had Simba’s ticket. ‘I’ve never lost a family member, but today I lost a brother,’ he told me. We then flew him back so he could be with Simba’s family and find solace during this difficult time.”
Jonathan also posted this heartfelt tweet about Simba yesterday.
A memorial service for Simba will be held this week, after the Top Billing presenter was killed in a car accident in the early hours of Saturday Morning.
Mhere died when a VW Polo driver crashed into his Mitsubishi on William Nicol Road near the N1 on Saturday Morning.
According to Channel 24, Simba Mhere’s funeral will take place on the 7th of February at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg at 9:00am. He will be laid to rest at the Westpark Cemetery in Roosevelt Park.
Basestsana further confirmed that this week’s Top Billing episode will be a tribute to Simba. She had already spoken to his father who was also involved in the accident and has agreed to be a part of the tribute episode.
