Ever wondered why Liezel Van Der Westhuizen decided to cut off her beautiful blonde locks and opt for a short hairdo?
“My gran being diagnosed with Cancer was a big life changer. I even shaved off my long hair, and went bald for a year in support of her. I now keep my hair short in memory of her and as a reminder that life is short. Before my gran passed away, she told me to grab every opportunity in life and enjoy every moment.”
Already a household name after an impressive stint on MNET Idols, Liezel van der Westhuizen is currently taking the South African entertainment scene by storm.
The relaxed smile, smooth and professional working manner and impeccable style has made her one of the most sought after presenters and emcees in the country. Coupled with a drive for success and an incredible work ethic in everything she does, it is no wonder the sky is the limit for this talent.
“I am very much a go getter, and love trying out new things. I am always up for a challenge and ready to tackle anything” Van Der Westhuizen tells us.
As only the second woman in the world to present Idols, Liezel has become the familiar face on the popular reality show in season five and six, and continues to impress with her current task of presenting SABC3’s new daily breakfast show – Expresso – as well as her weekly radio show – the Sunday Sundowner – on 94.5KFM in Cape Town.
If theres one thing that strikes us about Liezel, is her love and passion for sports. She has cometed in some of South Africa’s biggest sporting events. “In 2010 completing the toughest one day endurance race in the world, The Ironman (which comprises of 3.8km swim; 180 cycle and 42.2km run all to be completed within 17hours). This showed me that anything is possible. I only started training 12 weeks before the event and had never really ridden a bicycle before.”
Liezel is a client of 4 Elements celebrity management and PR.
