We’ve just watched the video for your single Insomnia – tell us more about this track?
Insomnia is my first single release and I am very excited about it as it was playlisted on Highveld Stereo the day it was submitted. I co-wrote it with Daniel Barron and it was produced by Daniel and Brendan Campbell so it’s a real homegrown song. It’s been very well received in SA and we’ve been getting good feedback from the US and London as well so I am hoping the success will spread further afield soon.
Which other artists inspire you as a musician?
Britney Spears was my first inspiration. I have been inspired by many more since then including Rihanna, Madonna, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Eartha Kitt, Adele.
What was it like filming the video for Insomnia?
It is the first music video I have ever shot so the whole process was very exciting. It was wonderful to work with such a professional and dedicated team and I came away having made new friends. Thank you to Kyle White (director, videographer and editor), Nick Jordaan (Lighting etc.), Amy Anstey (Make-up) and Dale Horne - my long suffering "muse" - for being such a good sport and taking more than one on the chin…Literally!
What was the concept behind the video?
I am a boxing trainer and Dale is my student. I have an infatuation with him that keeps me awake at night. Some scenes take place with me training Dale in the gym and others are of me thinking about him day and night.
When do you feel most confident?
When I am properly prepared for the task I am taking on.
Please tell us one secret about yourself that no one else knows just yet?
I am a dare devil. Don't challenge me to anything or I just might do it!
