ZAlebs always seem to look flawless, except for the rare occasions where they get caught on camera looking as normal as the rest of us. And how do we all treasures those pictures that make zalebs seem more human. That’s why we decided to find out what some of our favourite – and always glamorously beautiful – ZAlebs do when they’re not in the limelight. So we asked them what their day jobs are.
Sade Giliberti
We all remember Sade as our favourite YO-TV presenter, and we got to see another side to her on Survivor Santa Carolina – and then again when she underwent a makeover as presenter of So You Think You Can Dance. But the one thing that’s always been clear, is that she is an incredibly grounded person – and part of that might be thanks her ‘normal’ jobs of working in events and production.
“The best part about having a normal job is that it keeps a person grounded. If you have a normal 9-5, you’re just like any other average Joe. I’m not lost in the glitz and glamour, I work because I need to feed myself!”
Roxy Burger
From our favourite YO-TV presenter, to our favourite KTV presenter – that also spent some time on Survivor, in the Maldives edition. But Roxy has made quite a name for herself as a trendsetter and fashionista – and recently, she’s become our favourite Twitter darling too. But when Roxy isn’t out being a fabulous ZAleb, she uses all that charm we’ve come to know her for in her ‘normal’ job too. Armed with an Honours Degree in Branding, Roxy also works as a Creative Brand Strategist.
“My speciality is social media. So apart from presenting, I get to play on Facebook and Twitter for a living!”
Pearl Modiadie
And then we have The Black Pearl, as her fans came to know her when she presented Sistahood. Pearl has also made a name for herself as an actress, with a short spell on Scandal, and she’s a much-loved DJ on YFM too. But she also developed an interest for what happens behind the limelight, and went on to study Media Journalism. So today, when Pearl is not on air or screen, she enjoys her ‘normal’ job as Series Producer.
“I’ve had a day job ever since I got into entertainment. I enjoy the stability it provides and how it challenges my creative juices and connects me with the powers that be. I’m enjoying the best of both worlds, in front and behind the scenes.”
Relebogile Mabotja
Relebogile made her big break starring in musicals, with her beautiful voice and acting abilities. But she’s probably best known for her roles in Zone 14 and Rhythm City – and most recently for hosting Dance Your Butt Off. Lesser known, is her ‘normal’ job as television, music video and commercial producer. And these days she’s also directing musicals and composing music for television shows.
“I have full workdays filled with meetings, prepping for pitches. But it’s nothing out of the ordinary for me. I’ve been working since the beginning of my career. I enjoy working so being on multiple projects at one go is what I thrive on!”
Shashi Naidoo
Few people probably remember Shashi from her first big break on television when she appeared in Backstage, or when she co-presented the magazine show 20Something. But the reason for that is simply because she has become best known for her stunning looks, and as a firm favourite in the pages of FHM. So it’s no surprise that Shashi’s ‘normal’ job is grooming other young models, with her own agency, Alushi.
“You could be the person of the moment, and then not work for 3 months. So taking an entrepreneurial approach and being able to work in the industry I love has been a blessing. I’ve really enjoyed my transition from being in front of the camera to being behind the scenes.”
