South African actor, Siv Ngesi, is amongst the many people who were shocked to find out that Chrissy Teigen and John Legend had suffered a traumatic miscarriage. The announcement post which was shared on Thursday, 1 October 2020, appeared to evoke emotions for almost everyone, including Siv.
According to the actor, his sister had been through a similar experience, which also resulted in the death of her child. He explained that she had lost her baby during child birth, and found it hard open up about her loss for many days. He tweeted, “My sister lost her child during childbirth a few years ago, I have never seen such pain! Little one came out looking just like her! My sister never spoke for days!”.
Fans being offering their sympathies to him and his sister in the comment section, with many thanking him for speaking about it as a man. Dineo Sedikwe responded with, “Losing a child is the most painful thing anyone can ever go through. May she one day be able to speak about him without tears falling down her cheeks.”
Others inquired about his sister’s current mental state with one fan reaching out with, “How is she now? I have days where I go limp and its difficult.”, to which he replied with, “She has no choice but to keep going, she has two other kids who need her. Siv also related to another tweep who had said that he didn’t know how to comfort his sister who had gone through the same thing, prompting Siv to reply with, “I felt the same.”
The topic of miscarriages and infertility have remained taboo in many cultures, however South African celebrities have worked hard to change the narrative behind the traumatic ordeal. Stars such as Lerato Kganyago, Mshoza and Bridget Masinga are amongst the women who have opened up about their painful journeys of having lost a child.
