Noah Atubolu has left SC Freiburg to join Eintracht Frankfurt, adding another Nigeria-eligible player to the Bundesliga side’s ranks alongside Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika.
Frankfurt announced the goalkeeper’s signing on Friday, initially bringing the 24-year-old in for one season on loan. The agreement includes an option to buy, although that clause will turn into an obligation to complete the transfer if specified conditions are fulfilled.
Atubolu will now share the Frankfurt squad with Onyedika, who moved from Club Brugge earlier this month. The 25-year-old midfielder has signed a contract lasting until June 2031 and has been assigned shirt number 25.
Born in Freiburg, Germany, on May 25, 2002, Atubolu has Nigerian roots and remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles. He represented Germany through the youth ranks, including at Under-21 level, but has yet to appear for the country in a competitive senior international fixture. As a result, FIFA’s eligibility regulations still allow him to change allegiance to Nigeria.
Atubolu entered Freiburg’s youth system at the age of 13 and remained with the club for 11 years. He made his Bundesliga debut during the 2023-24 campaign and ended his time with Freiburg having played 125 competitive matches, keeping 38 clean sheets.
