Internationally acclaimed South African Thespian Terry Phetho has been scarce on the big screens but that doesn’t mean the star is not doing the work. She now thrives behind the scenes as a director, producer, and very often as a talent manager and mentor to many big names in the local film and television space.
The lead actor in the Oscar award-winning South African film Tsotsi is back with an all-new Netflix Original drama series that is locally produced and promising a story of vengeance and style. Her new project is the series called Savage Beauty where Terry boasts as a casting director with a star-studded cast of talent from different walks of life in the Quizzical pictures produced series.She took to Twitter this afternoon to introduce us to the impactful and ever-stylish cast of the series, Terry wrote in a lengthy Twitter thread, “Let me introduce to you the strong black female leads of Savage Beauty, launching next week on May 12th. Tell me who you think will take on the role of 'Savage or Soft' in this next African series?”
She continued to introduce us to the cast starting with lead actress Rosemary Zimu who is known in the entertainment scene for her roles on SABC 3’s Isidingo and Mzansi Magic’s The Queen. She plays the role of Zinhle Selepe in Savage Beauty and her character according to Terry is a feisty lady whose mind is set on vengeance, but somehow she finds love, and all her revenge plans end up being diluted.Another cast member in this star-studded series is veteran actress Nthanti Moshesh. She plays the character of Grace Bhengu who is also said to be a feisty character that will stop at nothing to get what she wants, and she knows it says casting director Terry.She also introduced us a new face, Ayanda Sithole who plays one of the wives in the series. She is supposedly an underdog who makes you fall in love with her as the series progresses.Fan favourite Nambitha Ben-Mazwi also makes the cast of this series and Terry Phetho wrote about her role, “In her best role yet, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi takes on the role of Linda Bhengu, desperately trying to follow in the footsteps of her father, but her own secrets create waves amongst the family.”
This series is written and made by filmmaker Lebogang Mogashoa and will be taking viewers into a world of high fashion with great costume designs and wardrobe styling, beauty, revenge, and some drama. Terry also added, “Think fashion, money, sex, drama and ALL the secrets, not to be missed. Catch Savage Beauty next week, 12th May - ONLY on Netflix (I might even make a sneak appearance)”Viewers will also get to see appearances from familiar faces in local entertainment and creative spaces from
Terry Pheto herself to luxury fashion influencers Sarah Langa and Kefilwe Mabote, and model and activist Thando Hopa, to name a few.
It is directed by Rea Rangaka, Denny Miller, and Thati Peele and will launch globally on Netflix next week on 12 May 2022.
