The 2000s Get Introduced To Music Legend, Brenda Fassie
It would be safe to say that the first pop star that South Africa produced is the fiery and talented musician, Brenda Fassie. The Weekend Special icon changed the face of what was called bubblegum music in the 1980s and 1990s, and became an integral part of the sound. And on the day that marks 16 years since her passing, social media uses celebrate the life and artistry of the troubled, but undisputed Queen of African Pop.

Music legend, Yvonne Chaka Chaka made headlines recently after an interview by the music legend detailed how musicians like veteran gospel artist, Dr Rebecca Malope, had to change music genres because there was no competing with Brenda Fassie.

Twitter users have used today as a chance to introduce the 2000s that might not know who the legend is to educate them. Brenda Fassie’s stardom captured South Africa during a time when local was lekker. One of the videos that have been shared on social media, showcase MaBrrr (and this is not Moozle) performing her smash hit Weekend Special to a stadium filled with adoring audiences there to see her.

Yes, there was a time before Cassper Nyovest that a South African act could fill up a stadium.
