During their final match of the season, Royal AM shared the spoils with Cape Town All Stars in a riveting game when both teams scored a goal each at the Chatsworth stadium in Durban. As a result, Andile Mpisane and Shauwn Mkhize's Royal AM earned themselves a point which automatically gained them access to the DSTV Premier Soccer League (PSL).
However, it's not as easy as it seems, as the league has a pending case which could see Royal AM drop down to second place. This comes after the team currently in second place, Sekhukhune United, laid a formal complaint which could see the club being awarded 3 points should they win the case. This will then mean that Sekhukhune are the winners of the GladAfrica Championship, making them the new club automatically promoted to the PSL. Meanwhile, Royal AM will still have at shot at getting promoted, but would have to earn their spot during the playoffs.
On the final day of the league, both Royal AM and Sekhukhune United were seen celebrating their "promotion" to the PSL. It was rather awkward as Sekhukhune had made merchandised to celebrate their in, while Shawn Mkhize had bought gold medals for her boys at Royal AM.
This past weekend, when the PSL officially crowned Mamelodi Sundowns the winners of the DSTV Premier Soccer League, Mamkhize was recorded congratulating them, but in the same breath lamenting that their trophy has not been awarded to them yet. In the viral video, she can be heard asking "where is our cup?".
"Congratulations to @sundownsfc at least you have your medals and cup 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽our story is a sad story," she wrote on Instagram.
