SABC 1 viewers are in a state of disbelief following the recent announcement that fan-favourite, Gabisile and Qhabanga are set to leave the show at the end of season six. Known for their sudden plots, no one saw this coming as Gabby-girl and her one true love fall part of Uzalo’s integral cast.
With rumours swirling the television blogosphere, actors, Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe have consistently denied their departure, but it appears as though Uzalo is finally putting the speculation to rest.
In a recent statement, the SABC 1 show stated, “Baby Cele and Siyabonga Shibe will indeed be leaving the show by the end of season six of Uzalo. The story has taken this direction and will give us a riveting, high-stakes ending for both characters. The decision was made in consultation with the two actors. Both have given a tremendous amount to their roles on Uzalo and we are forever grateful for that. We will be introducing a host of new characters played by South Africa's best. Please stay tuned and see as the story unfolds.”
Reports from July 2020 stated that Baby had been cast in the international film, Red Cargo, which is presumably the reason for her sudden exit. South African actors Menzi Ngubane will be joining Baby Cele and other American actors for the upcoming film Red Cargo which is expected to hit the big screen in 2021.
The producer for the film Senzo Zindela spoke to Isolezwe back in July, saying this is his dream come true and he had waited for years to finally put the film together. He said he shared a snippet of the film which caught the attention of American producers who were very eager to start filming. "We are waiting for lockdown regulations to ease up so we can start filming the movie. We are hopeful that by October the regulations will allow for such work to happen," he told the publication.
The film will be shot in the country and other local actors in the movie are Siyabonga Shibe, Israel Matseke-Zulu, Luthuli Dlamini and many more. Senzo also revealed that the veteran actor Menzi Ngubane will be playing lead in the movie whilst Baby Cele plays the role of his mother. However, he did not reveal any names of the American actors as they have not signed any contracts as yet.

It has not yet been revealed why Siyabonga has chosen to leave the show, however past actors from the weekday series have claimed to be involved in the scriptwriter’s decision to have their character exit the storyline.
