Throughout the past couple of years, the South African audience has been blessed with a number of locally produced television shows and it's somewhat all thanks to the likes of Basetsana Kumalo who has played a pivotal role in the execution of these locally produced shows.

Basetsana Kumalo who is the Executive Director of Connect TV has seen her production company produce shows like Date My Family, Our Perfect Wedding and KFC's Taste Kitchen and Utatakho to name a few.

All these shows have become a great success with local audiences and Basetsana has attributed that success to listening and providing South Africans with content that they can enjoy and identify with.

In a recent interview with ZAlebs Basetana shared her thoughts on the importance of producing local content for the masses.

Here's what she had to say:

"What's important about producing local content is that for many decades we have been consuming international content but as a television producer and a content specialist for the last 25 years, I saw it fit that we need to create with what resonates with our people, what speaks to our audience and what we can relate to.

We want to see ourselves on television not a projection of somebody else's perception of who we are. And so for me having founded Connect TV and producing more locally based type of television has given me a sense of what people really want to see. It's also about making a differance in peoples lives as well."

And just when we thought Basetsana couldn't do more shows she also confirmed that her company is responsible for producing SABC 3's latest reality show Married in a Flash which is set to air this week on the 11th of October.

Basetsana who is also an avid cook has been sharing a few of her favourite dishes on social media. Hmm.. maybe this will lead to her own cooking show in the future? After-all a show titled In Kitchen with Basetsana has a nice ring to it.

Yep, we think Basetsana might actually have her own cooking show. She's handling this cooking thing like a pro.
