The media mogul started her modeling career in 1990 and in 1994, her life changed for the better when she clinched the Miss South African crown. Taking to her Instagram she took a trip down memory lane to the monumental moment.
As she reflected on her life 28 years after the crowning, she shared pictures from the ceremony. She wrote: “Happy Throwback Thursday Darlings Miss World 1994 – 28 years Ago In 1994 Basetsana Kumalo was crowned Miss South Africa and 1st runner up at @missworld. For the past 28 years she has continued to live up to her Moto “To whom much is given, much is expected.” Basetsana is a beautiful example of empowerment for South African women, young and old. The 44th edition of the Miss World pageant was held on the 19th of November 1994 at @suncityresortsa in South Africa The Beautiful Lisa Hannaf Jamaica crowned her successor @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb of India at the end of the event! @missworld @official_misssa @the_pageant_prince.”
Speaking about her experience at the Miss World pageant on Instagram back in 2018, Basetsana expressed gratitude for that experience. She reposted a post that was originally shared by Proudly South African Beauties.
"On this day exactly 24 years ago gorgeous @basetsanakumalo competed against 86 other women for the 44th Miss World title at the Sun City Superbowl, South Africa,” reads the post in part.

What I miss most about the old days is the absolute glamour and spectacle of the final show and this edition had it in spades! It was a global event that attracted the who’s who of the world. It had stature, class, and will be remembered by many as one of the finest, she wrote.
