The University of KZN confirmed on Twitter this week that musician Gee Six Five was a PhD student in education. However her fame was short lived as it has been confirmed this mourning that the 65 year old musician has passed on.

"PhD student in Education and musician Ms Olpha Selepe, known by her stage name Gee Six Five, is trending since the release of her popular song Obani lababantu. The music video is quickly approaching 100,000 views on YouTube and the single is charting in the iTunes SA top 20."They also added that her advice to students is, "Get an education because there’s nothing you can do without education."

1. Gee Six Five's real name is Olpha Selepe. She is a 65-year-old retired teacher from Emadadeni in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal and is a grandmother of a whopping 13 grandchildren. She was married but unfortunately her husband passed away in 1999.

2. She recently went viral and trended on Twitter for her hit amapiano song Obani Lababantu. Although she was a subject of many a meme and mockery on Twitter she had the last laugh because by the end of the week her song was number 1 on the SA iTunes charts and her music video on YouTube had over 100 000 views. Even DJ Euphonik can't stop raving about her.
3. Gee Six Five is also a composer and said she wrote the song to address naysayers as it's never too late for one to be what they want to be despite what people say. “When I composed this song, I wanted to address a question that people are always thinking: “Who are these people talking about me?” You know, who are these jealous people, who are these people laughing at me? So I wanted to send a message," Gee Six Five told Trending SA.

After resigning as the head of uMgungundlovu TVET College, Northdale branch in March this year she decided to give music another shot in July.
5. Unfortunately Gee Six Five's upcoming album will be her last as she revealed that she is never going to release music again. According to reports the singer said, ”I named myself Gee Six Five because i will only perform when iam 65 years old, its a once off project which ends this year. I will not record other songs beyond this year.” Her niece also revealed on Twitter that their family was very divided about Gee Six Five releasing her single because they want to protect her from negative comments and publicity.
