Hit talent show Idols SA has just been renewed for another season.

According to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, the show will be returning for season 18 next year. He also announced that the show may be pushed to a different time slot to accommodate Big Brother Mzansi, which will also be returning next year.
The show is set to wrap up Season 17 this Sunday 21st November, and fans are excited for the finale. We have had quite the eventful seasons, and viewers are gearing up to support the two last ladies standing, Hebron’s Karabo Mathe and Cape Town’s Berenike Trytsman, aka Berry. It's been a long road for each of them, one that began long before this year.
The competition is heating up for its final leg. Last week, the two finalists had their chance to put their best foot forward for the last time, and they both wowed judges and their audience with their skills. They each performed their first singles, with Karabo’s ‘Hosanna’ providing a spiritual delight, and Berry’s Zulu song ‘Ungowami’ providing a sweet reconnection with their roots for participants, judges and fans alike.

Throughout its run this season, Idols SA has boasted many celebrity appearances, mostly as guest judges. Well, that has been the case since Somizi Mhlongo, everyone’s favourite judge, left the show. Since his departure, fans have rallied every week for him to return and delight them with his flamboyant fashion and sharp wit, but as the season winds to a close, it is becoming clearer that it won’t happen for the fans the way they want it.
This season has also made history for other reasons. Apparently, this is the first time all top three finalists were female, and fans were super excited to note that. After all, the future is female, right? The other lady S’22Kile, was ousted just a few weeks back, only shortly after the show had said a very emotional goodbye to the last man standing, Kevin, just the week before.

The fact that the show has been running for this long is a testament of its appeal and its loyal fan base. I mean, 17 seasons! That’s no small feat to accomplish. It is great sometimes to just sit back and enjoy some pure drama-free talent, which could be the reason the show has had such a long successful run.
Auditions for Season 18 have already been announced for the coming year. Through Mzansi Magic’s website, the show has released the forms for potential contestants, and will no doubt be getting overwhelming responses soon.

We wish Berry and Karabo the very best in their final battle, and can’t wait for the new talent to arrive next year!
